Denmark's rollercoaster qualification ride will
scare coach Morten Olsen as much as thrill him.
Olsen's talented team romped to a 5-2 win over Romania
in Bucharest before succumbing tamely to an unheralded
Bosnia-Herzegovina side, but still scraped through
to qualify ahead of neighbours Norway.
Though lacking outstanding individual players,
the surprise Euro '92 champions will hope the flying
wing pair of Dennis Rommedahl and Jesper Gronkjaer
can provide the ammunition for the prolific Jon
Dahl Tomasson, who averages a goal every two international
matches.
Thomas Gravesen presents a steadying influence
in midfield, allowing creative partner Claus Jensen
to push forward.
Defensively, Thomas Helveg, Martin Laursen and
'keeper Thomas Sorensen provide a solid base, but
a lack of regular first-team opportunities for the
attacking trio could prove fatal to the team's chances
of progressing.
Prediction: Should push Sweden hard for
second, but will miss out.
