"......Seems to be the case that Celtic Boys Club/Celtic FC do not encourage youths to play for their schools - the main arena from which they can access Scottish Schoolboys XI.
On that basis kids do not enter the representative set-up.
A further confusion in the McGeady case is that Pat Bonner (ex-ROI keeper) was part of the Irish international set-up when Mcgeady was emerging. Bonner appears to come from same part of Co Donegal as McGeady's family and seems to have influenced his decision.
This debate can be argued with some ferocity by both sides - that McGeady is out of order declaring himself as eligible for ROI and 'refusing' to play for Scotland, and that if the likes of Terry Butcher and Richard Gough can play for Eng/Scot despite having been born in Singapore/S Africa respectively, why cant McGeady play for Ireland without being branded a bigot.
The issue is immaterial, because Mcgeady will have no international future for either Ireland or Scotland. He is the most over-rated product of our youth system in many a long years - and there are a few candidates for that title.
Regarding the Manchester City takeover, all the speculation regarding Raneiri was designed purely for the footballing lemmings that do their brains on this type of market, but in Sven we have a situation where the 1/4 should actually be 1/20,sven has been seen to be in talks with sinatra, he is high profile and that is exactly what city have too get, nothing else will be good enough certainly not the likes of Strachan, Hughes, or Coleman, sven is also unemployed after having been paid up last Friday and has had long enough to recharge his batteries for the new challenge, there is speculation that Sven has other job offers, a smokescreen to ensure he gets the right deal, at 1/4 its money in the bank. Sven may get the job, but looking at the situation objectively, his current price is a lay. Yes, they may be in talks and he may actually be close to getting the job, but remember this is Sven. He is mercurial. Flying into London and having talks doesn't necessarily mean that he wants the job. He'll do whatever it takes to raise his profile and get news time. He's had his rest and he could be letting the world know he's available again.
Does he have the drive and ambition to manage a challenge like Man City? Does he really want it? Does he want to be back in England, or somewhere to top up his tan?
Myself, I just can't see it happening. But if he is appointed I will be very surprised if he saw out the reported three year contract. I don't think he'll be too bothered if he was let go and received a nice income for doing nothing.....
