".....Arizona
needed
receivers, and
we got
receivers. Lots
of them. They
all have
question marks
over them mind,
especially the
two that will
probably start
the season as
the first choice
pairing, but if
someone had said
to me in January
this is the
position we'd
find ourselves
in come May, I
would not have
believed them.
Tom Brady to
Randy Moss -
that has me
creaming my
pants as I type.
The best thing
it will do for
us though, is
upon up the run
game for Lo Mo,
and give Ben
Watson a lot
more one on one
situations, and
he's one of the
hardest guys in
the league to
defend against.
I'm not sure
about the
personnel at RB,
well behind
Maroney anyway
(who has that
shoulder injury
to think about
too), Kev is a
good guy to have
on the roster
and has made
some big plays
for us in his
time, but Sammy
Morris is a bit
of an unknown,
and Justise
Hairston is a
rookie (who
admittedly has
great stats).
Hopefully we'll
get a surprise
from one of
those this year,
although if
things do open
up the way I
hope, Maroney
could get 1500
yards.
With regards to
the O-line, I
read something
at the end of
last season from
Belichick
regarding the
number of times
defenders got to
Tommy during the
season, and
although I don't
think he had a
notable number
more sacks than
in previous
seasons, it
seemed to be an
area of concern
for BB and Dante
Scarnecchia. And
it showed with
the draft - 3
lineman were
taken and all
seemed to have
retained at
least a PS berth
for next year.
Lastly (sorry
for the long
post folks), we
do need a little
back-up behind
Tommy Terrific,
Cassell had a
good reputation
coming out of
college (even if
he wasn't a full
time starter),
but he's still
an unknown
quantity.....and
then we have 98
year old Vinny
Testaverde. So
we picked up
Matt Guttierrez
in the draft,
and from what
I've read he
bares more than
a passing
resemblence (at
least in
personality and
style) to number
12. Enough so he
gets a years
deal anyway.
So, with all
that, hopefully
we'll see
something
similar to last
years 12-4, even
with a slightly
tougher
schedule. The
problem we
always have
though is
injuries, and if
we can have a
relatively quiet
year, we might
live up to some
of the daft
ideas about us
being Superbowl
favourites
afterall.
I say 12-4, and
hopefully a run
to Arizona...."
