I am considering backing Vhujon in the last, this is a real speedball and very fast out the traps I reckon he may have a few in trouble coming into the last furlong where I can hopefully trade out, and watch with contempt as he and Achilles Of Troy fight out the finish. I don't think there isn't much difference in the far side and the stands side so if they split both groups should get their chance. The problem if your drawn wide and everyone comes stands side is that unless you ping the lids your be stuck out wide and dont really get into the race.
Interesting watching the races last year is that the finishes were dominated by horses racing close to the pace rather than coming from behind. Looking at the Kings Stand all the pace is mid to high.
Desert Lord and co will give the far side a good pull and the pace for the stands side group is unlikely to be as strong. King Orchisious, Beauty Is Truth and Takeover Target being the three prominent horses in the stands side group. It may pay to side with TT and BIS for the stands side group if there is any indication from the Coventry Stakes that the stands side has the fastest strip of ground. Low-key start for yours truly this year as in the past I've gone charging into the 1st day card and found myself 8-10pts down before the meetings got going.
Want to oppose the likes of George Washington, Cockney Rebel and HenrytheNavigator but really struggling to find the ones to beat them, having finally talked myself out of having a decent cut at Dutch Art - just marginally come down on the idea that he wont get home but I'm still not totally convinced and I will be fed up to put it mildly
if it does win!
The Queen Anne is a minefield, for me Cesare is a shocking price on what he's achieved, Red Evie surely can't keep winning and as for Ramonti I just get the feeling he might be a bit of a nearly horse (there's a statement that could come back to haunt me!) George could easily win by default.
As for bets I have actually have had, Dandy Man put up a huge performance this time last year when he was conclusively drawn on the wrong side and for my eyes cant see anyone of those that faced him last year beating him this, if the fresh batch of Aussies are that much better then so be it, but as long as the rain stays away a double figure price is too big.
The case for Achillies of Troy has been made much more eloquently by others on here than I could hope to do - needless to say I agree wholeheartedly!
The Ascot Stakes has more plots in it than an average week of soap operas so just a tentative few quid at an old favourite of mine, Full House has done me a turn or two over the sticks and I thought he was quite impressive last time out, probably a bit high in the weights and something that's not lifted a leg for 6 months will come and chin him but that might just be me being
cynical!
As always good luck to everyone for the 1st day!.... "
