I read that HBO are keen to match Joe Calzaghe with Kelly Pavlik.
After watching Pavlik fight on the Taylor-Spinks undercard i think its a fight Calzaghe should avoid.
I've also seen Pavlik fight earlier in his career - he had a reputation of being hard to hit but fought totally on the front foot on Saturday and out brawled Edison Miranda.
Add to that he's only 25 and has 28 KO's in 31 fights.
He also has plenty of experience of big fight nights as he's regually fought on big cards in Vegas. I think HBO are looking at him to be their new white star!
Frank Warren should keep Joe away from him at all costs!.It does seem that if Calzaghe is to take on a big name opponent it has to be
someone smaller than himself.
He gave up the IBF title because he didn't want to fight
their NO 1 challenenger.
He prefers to keep the lightly rated WBO title because they let him carefully
choose his own opposition.
How many of his opponents were rated ,by the Ring magazine,in the top 5 AT THE TIME
Calzaghe fought them?
If he had given up the WBO belt years ago he would have had the fights he
claims he always wanted because the main organisations would soon have made him NO 1 challenger.
He only fought Lace because he must have seen some weakness.
Calzaghe career has been all spin, and you can expect the same from the other South Walian "world champion''..I think Joe will look back at his career and will rue the missed opportuniteis of the great fights he could have had. Tarver, RoyJones, Glencoffe Johnson, all bigger opponets yes but Joe is a big Super Middle, and a deal with hopkins I'm sure could have negotiated. I'm a great fan of Joe and hope he gets 1 or 2 more career defining fights. I think he is only currently remembered for 2 and thats Eubank and Lacy....."
