One I am interested in on Saturday's card is Game Lad in the 7f handicap (3.55).
Goes very well with cut in the ground and is arguably one of the best handicapped in this field.
Won a couple of 7f handicaps in 2005 off marks of 80 and 84 (gave smart handicapper Dabbers Ridge 3lb and a 2.5-length beating in latter race).
Best efforts last season were on first two starts. 3/4-length 3rd to King's Caprice at Newmarket off 91 and then 3-lengths 4th behind Minority Report in Thirsk Hunt Cup off a 92 rating.
Yet to hit form this season but handicapper has dropped him 8lb to a mark of 81. 11th of 15 in Thirsk Hunt Cup, but only 3-lengths behind winner My Paris and now 3lb lower. I've got in there quick and had a pt e/w Pretty Majestic @ 20s with William.
Positives - Looked as though the drop back in trip would suit when running in the Nell Gywnn, Channon's normally come on for the seasonal debut, Spencer booked at the 5 day stage suggests they are expecting a decent effort and on a fair mark if you consider form with Ponty Rossa and how that one has fared against the likes of Genki.
Main negatives are the length of the break after the NG (perhaps she suffered a set-back of sorts?) and it's always risky to make form assumptions based on efforts at two. But at the price i'll take the chance.
Also had 2pts e/w on Tombi @ 33s with the Goat. Suspect this is a rick (next best price is 14s!) rather than generous odds compilers so probably won't get the price but
I'll happily take the risk knowing
I'll get my money back if that is the case. The difficulty with Giganticus is that you can only really look at his last two races. His form went to pot as a 3 yr old and it's only since he had his nuts chopped off that we've seen the real beast so it's hard to assess how good he could be. 4th lto was good (drawn 1, but perhaps too far) but is this really his sort of course - can't tell. Is he best fresh? Whilst the run lto was good perhaps he should have done better? For me there's not enough form to make a confident decision so on that basis 5s would not tempt me. DANUM DANCER has very useful form as a 2 y/o. He twice finished a few lengths off widud
who is now a 116
rated sprinter.
Most of his running was over 5 furlongs which he found too sharp and his poorest performances were on soft ground. However on decent ground and upped to 6 furlongs he hacked up in one of the richest 2yo races of the year - the two year old trophy at
Redcar.
