AC Milan vs Siena
" After thrashing Empoli 5-0 last Sunday,
Carlo Ancelotti's AC Milan will play their postponed game against
Siena on Wednesday evening at San Siro Stadium. The game was postponed
due to Milan's earlier Inter Continental Cup participation where
they lost on penalties to Boca Juniors. Ancelotti have urged his
men to treat this match seriously as the European champions will
have the chance to move two points clear at the top of Serie-A
table should they managed to pull off a win over mid-table Siena.
Insiders tip that Ancelotti would most probably rest top scorer
Andriv Shevchenko and start with Danish international Jon Dahl
Tomasson as the lone striker. However, Brazilian wonderkid Kaka
is expected to play his usual role - centre forward just behind
Tomasson. Experienced defender Alessandro Nesta will also be rested
as Milan's back four will consist of Cafu, Costacurt, Pancaro
and skipper Maldini while Seedorf, Pirlo, Gattuso and Rui Costa
should form the midfield. After coming back from one goal down,
Siena managed to beat Perugia 2-1 last weekend and The Bianconeri
are deifnately on high confidence after that win. Siena's boss
Giuseppe Papadopulo are fully aware of the task that his men are
facing but will go into the match with high pride after finishing
second behind Ancelotti in the Italian Football Federation best
coach of 2003 award. Currently Siena lies in a comfortable 10th
position in what is their first-ever season in Serie-A. Giuseppe
Papadopulo looks set to hand debuts to former Milan player Roque
Junior and Denilson de Souza Junior, who are both on loan until
end of the season. Tore Andre Flo and Nicola Ventola are both
expected to spearhead Siena's attack while being supported by
Guiguo, D'Aversa, Vergassola and Taddei in midfield. Cirillo,
Argilli, Mignani and Cufre will form the back four while Rossi
will be gurading the post for the visiting team.
Milan have a very impressive home record with 6-1-1
status, scoring 18 and only conceeding 5 while Siena is still
looking for their first away win of the season. Their away record
stands at 0-4-4, scoring 10 and conceeding 16. Most of Siena's
success are due to their strong home matches but they have lost
their last three away games. With only 7 points from their last
6 matches, AC Milan will be too strong for them although without
Shevchenko and Inzaghi. With Milan scoring an average of three
goals in their last three home matches, it will be easy for the
Rossoneri to overcome the -1 1/2 handicap in the asian handicap
market. Final verdict, another easy win for the European champions.
