Reggina v Empoli
"Reggina takes on Empoli at Stadio Granillo with three straight defeats prior
to this match. After their shocking 2-1 victory over Lazio earlier this
month, Giancarlo Carmolese's Reggina looks good for a comfortable survival
in Serie-A but defeats to AC Milan(3-1), Lecce(1-3) and Sampdoria(2-0) have
send the newly promoted club back into relegation battle. Carmolese have bad
memories of Empoli where he was sack as the coach of Torino after his defeat
to the Tuscany outfit in the Coppa Italia. Carmolese will have to start
without midfielder Carlos Paredes who is sidelined due to muscle problems
but Italian international Gianluca Comotto is expected to make his debut
after joining from Torino. Apart from that, Carmolese is boosted with a
virtually injury-free squad.
Meanwhile, Attilio Perotti's Empoli have improved over the past few weeks
and are now four points behind their opponent in the league standings, with
seven points from their last three matches. After their sensational 0-1
victory over Inter Milan at San Siro two weeks ago, the former Serie-B
outfit managed to hold Juventus to a 3-3 draw. The players are in high
confidence after the draw with Juventus and striker Tommy Rocchi, who scored
his hat-trick in that match is raring to score more goals for his team.
However, Perotti will have to start without influential playmaker Vincenzo
Grella and defender Stefano Lucchini due to injury. Rocchi will spearhead
the visitor's attack alongside Toto Di Natale who performed superbly against
Juventus last week.
Expect Empoli to take advantage of Reggina's current poor run and register
another victory to improve their standings in Serie-A.
