".....I'm a Raptors fan and people completely bought into how good Sam Mitchelle is based on sports writers who've probably not seen the Raptors 5 times this season.
I've seen at least 70 of their games and that man has no idea. No X's and O's and also very little in the way of motivation.
He's got close to Chris Bosh which is a smart move but he's no Coach of the Year.
The Raptors had decent personnel this year, not great but decent and all the credit for that turnaround goes to Colangello. The Raptors are going to be a top 4/5 team in the East for the next 5-6 years unless they make alot of mistakes, which isn't going to happen, but they were lucky to win 47 games this year.
They played about 10 games at just the right time against teams who were missing their top players, in any other year they would've been underdog in at least half of these games. They didn't win ANY games they weren't supposed to between Dec28th and the middle of Feb, thats not really a Coach getting his team to overachieve.
The problem is now that its difficult to sack a guy who just won Coach of the Year but i honestly think that Collangello would like to. He realises that Mitchell is nothing more than an average NBA coach at best and would like to get his own guy in, maybe Ivaroni the Suns assistant.
I
just hope that Mitchell gives him the excuse by pricing himself out the the job, but unfortunately i think he's smart enough to see what a great position he's in with Toronto going forward.
Unfortunately he probably will stay and the Raptors will do fairly well, but they could do so much better with a really good coach. They only just missed out on the 2nd seed. I think he does a great job for them, running a tight ship - obv made easier for him that he has some great characters on his team mind - but sorted out wallace earlier in the year lol. He's also walked that fine line of developing the youngsters (thomas, thabo) but keeping them highly competitive.
There's no run away winner this year.
I also though L. Frank did a good job (another one who's continuing his success through the playoffs -often works that way!) with all the injuries NJ
have had, and
making stars of
a journeyman
(more) and a
euro
project...."
